A practical read loop

Start with ctx_compose when you have a question but do not know the file. Use ctx_search for a known string, symbol or semantic query. Then read the relevant source at an appropriate detail level.

A compact result should help you decide where to look next. Recover an implementation or exact range before relying on a detail that was omitted.

Keep editing separate

ctx_edit and ctx_patch are mutations. Anchored patches use references from an anchored read or search; stale references should trigger a fresh inspection.

Reads, shell operations and editing have different permissions and policy checks. Do not infer write permission from a successful read.

Source connections

URL, Git, provider and downstream MCP tools have distinct inputs and authentication. Choose the contract for the actual source type rather than treating every source as a local file.

The catalog below links to generated inputs for every operation in this group.
