Terms of Service
Last updated: May 2026
1. Scope and Acceptance
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the lean-ctx software (CLI, MCP server, Chrome extension), the leanctx.com website, and any optional cloud services (collectively, the "Service"). By downloading, installing, or using lean-ctx, you agree to these Terms.
If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service.
2. Software License
The lean-ctx source code is licensed under the Apache License 2.0. This license grants you the right to use, modify, and distribute the software under its terms. The full license text is included in the source repository.
Pre-compiled binaries distributed via GitHub Releases, Homebrew, Cargo, npm, and AUR are provided under the same Apache-2.0 license.
3. Permitted Use
You may use lean-ctx for any lawful purpose, including:
- Personal and commercial software development
- Integration with AI coding assistants and IDEs
- Deployment in CI/CD pipelines and automated workflows
- Modification and redistribution under the Apache-2.0 license terms
4. Prohibited Use
You may not:
- Use the Service to process, store, or transmit malware or malicious code
- Attempt to circumvent the security mechanisms (PathJail, shell allowlist, etc.) for malicious purposes
- Use the optional cloud services to store illegal content
- Misrepresent your identity or impersonate others when using team features
- Use the Service in a way that violates applicable local, national, or international law
5. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. This includes, without limitation, implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
The maintainer does not warrant that:
- The Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free
- Compression or caching will not alter the semantic meaning of processed content
- The Service will be compatible with all environments, tools, or configurations
- Defects will be corrected in a timely manner
6. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, the maintainer shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to:
- Loss of data or code
- Loss of profits or business opportunity
- Service interruption or downtime
- Damages arising from the use of AI-generated code in conjunction with lean-ctx
- Security breaches caused by misconfiguration or misuse
This limitation applies regardless of the legal theory (contract, tort, negligence, or otherwise) and even if the maintainer has been advised of the possibility of such damages.
7. Cloud Services (Optional)
Cloud features (team sync, remote knowledge sharing) are entirely optional and activated only
by explicit user action (lean-ctx login). For cloud services:
- Availability: Cloud services are provided on a best-effort basis with no guaranteed uptime SLA
- Data ownership: You retain full ownership of all data you upload to the cloud service
- Data deletion: You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time
- Service changes: Cloud features may be modified, suspended, or discontinued with reasonable notice
8. Intellectual Property
The "LeanCTX" name, logo, and website design are the intellectual property of the maintainer. The Apache-2.0 license covers the source code but does not grant trademark rights.
You may not use the "LeanCTX" name or branding in a way that suggests official endorsement or affiliation without prior written permission.
9. Third-Party Services
lean-ctx integrates with third-party AI tools (Cursor, Claude, Copilot, etc.) and package registries (GitHub, Homebrew, crates.io, npm). These services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies. The maintainer is not responsible for the availability, security, or behavior of third-party services.
10. Security Reporting
If you discover a security vulnerability in lean-ctx, please report it responsibly via security@leanctx.com. Do not disclose vulnerabilities publicly until a fix has been released.
11. Changes to These Terms
These Terms may be updated from time to time. Material changes will be announced via the CHANGELOG and the "Last updated" date will be revised. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
12. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Switzerland. Any disputes arising from or relating to these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Switzerland.
13. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary so that the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect.
